Double winning strike for Shocking

Shocking's New Year has started positively with the Rich Hill Stud stallion delivering a  winning double today.

The home-bred Stunning (pictured above) started the ball rolling at Tauherenikau and within the hour Nasha River struck at Tauranga.

Trained by Lisa Latta, Stunning has often been the bridesmaid and she thoroughly deserved her maiden victory.

The five-year-old had previously placed nine times and no fewer than six runner-up finishes.

She was a $20,000 Karaka yearling and is out of the Woodman mare Allegory.

It is a family that has made its mark internationally through Flying Paster's Gr.1 Santa Anita Derby and Gr.1 Hollywood Derby wins.

Meanwhile, smart three-year-old  Nasha Riva (number 8, pictured) has wasted no time in getting on the board for trainer Jim Pender.

The Shocking filly finished third on debut before shedding her maiden tag over 1400m on her home course.

She is a daughter of the Black Minnalouse mare Loviste and the family of the Gr.2 Wellington Guineas winner Old Tawny.
