Rich Hill bred filly shows exciting staying promise...

Shocking filly Taming The Shrew stepped out in eye-catching fashion winning her race debut today at Rotorua, her finishing effort suggesting a big three-year-old season ahead.

Taming The Shrew won the maiden NZ Bloodstock Pearl Series (1215m) race by 1¾ lengths, after racing wide and making an early run where she showed too much acceleration for her more experienced rivals.

"She's kept on improving through the spring and through her early trials, and it's encouraging for a staying filly to show a turn of foot like that," said co-trainer Andrew Scott.

"She had a pretty tough run in the race, and it's hard for a young and inexperienced horse to try and win as she has. But it is really encouraging and I think when she gets over a little further things can only get better."

"There's so much improvement to come in her fitness and experience, I think she should have a good summer ahead."

Taming the Shrew is out of the Rich Hill mare Stage Fright (Stravinsky), and was purchased by Andrew Scott from Rich Hill's 2017 Festival draft.

Rich Hill will present a lovely Pentire yearling half-brother to Taming The Shrew at the Karaka's 2019 Book 2 session.
