Coolmore stalwart
Choisir (pictured) featured overnight with a brilliant juvenile stakes-winner when two year-old colt
The Last Lion bolted way for an easy victory in the
Listed Dragon Stakes at Sandown.
A close second in the
Gr.2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, the Mark Johnston trained colt raced up on the pace from a wide gate and forged clear to win the five furlong dash by two lengths.
Tough and consistent, the speedster has won twice and been second three times from five starts and holds entries for the
Gr.1 Phoenix Stakes and Nunthorpe Stakes.
Purchased for 82,000 euros from the Goffs Orby Sale, The Last Lion is a sibling to stakes-winning sprinters Russian Rock and Contest being from the good Group I placed producer Mala Mala, a half-sister by Brief Truce to Group I winner Tarascon.
This is a family that has made a big impact here and includes Gr.1 NZ One Thousand Guineas winner Vivacious Spirit and Group winner Serene Majesty and Fravashi.
The Last Lion is the 74
th stakes-winner for Choisir, who made news recently at the Royal Ascot meeting where he
sired the dams of two stakes-winners including the
Gr.1 Prince's of Wales Stakes winner
My Dream Boat.
Choisir stands at a fee of $29,700 at Coolmore Australia this spring alongside his globe-trotting champion son Starspangledbanner at $24,750.
