New Zealand trainer John Wheeler will give Pentathlon (Pentire) a barrier trial today at Cranbourne ahead of the geldings tilt in Saturday's Gr.2 Moonee Valley Cup (2500m).
The trainer has said the five time-winner will run in the Melbourne Cup if the five-year-old makes the field.
Runner-up in the Gr.2 Wellington Cup (3200m) at Trentham in January, Pentathlon finished seventh in his first start in Australia in Gr.3 The Bart Cummings (2500m) at Flemington on 2 October.
